A woman who had beed diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease got a shock when doctors discovered she she actually had a ketchup packet lodged in her intestine for 6 years.
Her symptoms lined up with Crohn’s, and doctors believed her abdominal issues were due to the disease. Her symptoms included pain and bloating that were ongoing. However, attempts to treat the disease through conventional means failed.
During surgery for Crohn’s disease complications, doctors found the ketchup packet stuck to the lining of her intestine.
“The mass was mobilized where it was found to contain two pieces of plastic bearing the word ‘Heinz’ on them,” the report said.
“It is important to consider alternatives surgical diagnoses in patients with presumed Crohn’s disease unresponsive to standard treatment,” and doctors urged more thorough evaluations. However, without surgery, it is not likely it would have been discovered.
It’s uncertain how doctors were able to pinpoint the time the packet had been there.
In conclusion, eat more carefully and take smaller bites, folks.
