Princess Juliana International Airport
Located on the Dutch side of Saint Martin island, Princess Juliana Airport has one of the craziest approaches this side of the Atlantic.
Because the runway sits right next to a local beach, inbound aircraft fly pretty low on approach. Okay, “pretty” is an understatement.
They fly EXTREMELY low above the beach.
Lukla Airport
How did you think people got to the Himalayas? By car? Nope, it’s a job for a propeller plane flying into Lukla Airport.
Located in eastern Nepal, Lukla sits on the edge of a 9,334-foot mountain overlooking a massive canyon.
In addition to the tricky topography, the runway is not flat. It slopes up towards the end causing pilots to apply the right level of brakes to properly slow down their plane.
